Build Instructions
So begins your building journey . . .
The parts you should have from the Emotigraph Kit are 4 laser cut wood sheets, 8 long dowels, 8 short dowels, and a length of string.

You will also need a hammer and double sided tape (or single side tape will work too).
First take all the parts that are numbered and order them from 1 to 12. The long pieces are the tines and the smaller numbered pieces are the tabs.

Take the same numbered tab and tine connect them together as shown in the picture with the number facing out, this is important. Press them together so that the part of the fork is through the tab.

Make sure to that the numbered side of the tab visible after connecting it to the tine, this is important.
Connect the rest of the numbered pairs of tines and tabs the same way as pair #1 with the numbered side of the tab visible.
Now you should have all the tines and tabs connected. Next, get the 2 pieces with 12 slots in them (the horizontal stabilizers) and long thin rectangle piece (the vertical stabilizer).

Take the 2 horizontal stabilizers and stack them on top of each other.

Then insert tine/tab pair #1 through the first slot as shown, going through both horizontal stabilizers.
Check that the tab orientation is correct, on tine/tab #1 the tab will be pointed toward the center.

In the next slot place tine/tab pair #2, tab pointing toward the center.

Then add tine/tab pair #3, tab pointing away from the center.

Then add tine/tab pair #4, tab pointing toward the center.

Then tine/tab pair #5, tab pointing toward the center.

Then tine/tab pair #6, tab pointing toward the center.

Then tine/tab pair #7, tab pointing toward the center.

Then tine/tab pair #8, tab pointing toward the center.

Then tine/tab pair #9, tab pointing toward the center.

Then tine/tab pair #10, tab pointing away from the center.

Then tine/tab pair #11, tab pointing toward the center.

Then finally tine/tab pair #12, tab pointing toward the center.

At this point double check that all of the tabs numbers are visible from the same side, if they are not, check that the tab and tine are connected with the tab number visible and that the pair was inserted in the correct orientation.
Now that you have all the pairs in the two horizontal stabilizers flip the top horizontal stabilizer back so that the tines are still inserted in both but the horizontal stabilizers are separated.

Then take the vertical stabilizer and insert in through the tines.

After the vertical stabilizer goes through all 12 tines you can sandwich the vertical stabilizer between the horizontal stabilizers.

The next pieces you will need are the sides.

Tilt the tine/tab and stabilizer assemble on its end so that the #1 on the tine is visible and align the stabilizers so that the two horizontal stabilizers are parallel and the vertical stabilizer is perpendicular to them.

Take one of the sides and align it so that the large slot is to the right and connect the horizontal and vertical stabilizers connect through the side.

Flip the assemble over and connect the other side.

Next take the piece of string and thread it through the hole on one of the sides.

Now turn the assembly upside down so that all the tines slide up.

Tilt the assemble on its side and thread the string through the slots in the tines. Have a bit of slack in the string and you can drop it down through the slots.

Turn the assembly back up and thread the string out the other side.

Tie one of the hoops to one side of the string.

Then pull the other side of the string so that the hoop is next to the hole in the side piece.

Then attach the second hoop to the other side close to the hole.

Next get the face plate which is the largest piece.

Slide the face plate into the assembly with the face plate slots connecting with the side slots.

Next get the center spar pieces.

Put them together.

Spread the two side pieces apart to make more space for inserting the center spar.

To insert the center spar start with one end into a side.

Insert the center spar into both the slot on the face place and the other side. You may have to push the center spar to pop it in but make sure you have started it into one of the slots on the side.

Next get the back spar piece.

Place the back spar so that it connects with the center spar and the side. Press the back spar together with the sides as was done with the tine/tab connection.

Next order the face pieces together. The larger lip pieces are the lower lips and

You will also need the lock washers and sticks. There are two extra sticks of each length and six extra lock washers in case they break on you.

Start with a lower lip piece, two short sticks, and two lock washers.

Insert the sticks into the washers by taping them in with a hammer on a flat surface. You may be able to just press the pieces together with your hands and that works, too.

Insert the stick so it is flush with the lock washer.

Do this for both short sticks.
Next place the the lower lip piece with the side you would like visible face down on a flat surface. Then tap one of the stick/washer parts into one of the holes on the lower lip.

Before inserting the second stick/washer in the other hole, pull the stick/washer/lip appart. Either the lip will come off first or the washer, either way leave two of the pieces together so it is easier to put back together by hand on the face.
Tap in the other stick/washer into the other hole on the lower lip piece and then pull it apart.
Now you should have pieces that can be put together by hand but are still tight.
Put the stick/washer piece through one of the low tabs (tabs 3, 5, 8, and 10) and face plate. Then press the stick and lower lip back together. If you have the sticks starting in the low lip attach the washer. Then do the same for the other hole. In these pictures the lower lip piece is being attached to tabs 8 and 10.

When attaching the face pieces make sure there is a slight gap between the piece and the face plate so that it can move smoothly and tight enough that the piece is nearly flat against the face plate.

Now repeat the steps for the other lower lip.

Next the upper lips use two long sticks for piece. Put the pieces together and take them apart like you did with the lower lip.

The lock washers may come off in pulling it apart.

Or the it might disconnect at the lip either will work, the point is just to prep the holes for putting it back together by hand.

The tabs used for the upper lips are 2, 6, 7, and 11.

Repeat the steps for the other upper lip.

Next is the brow pieces. The brow pieces use one short stick and one long stick and lock washers for each. The hole closer to the edge uses the long stick.

Put the brow pieces together same as the lip pieces.

And then take them apart.

The brows will attach to tabs 1, 4, 9, and 12.

Make sure that the brow is attached with the hole near the edge towards the center of the face.

Now pull down on the hoop attached to the string. This should smoothly lift all the pieces on the face, if there is resistance check the face pieces are not too tight against the face plate, they should be able to move freely. Also check that the pieces are not too loose, the pieces should be flat against the face plate with just a small gap.

When you release the hoop the pieces should drop smoothly down to the bottom position. If pieces stick and do not drop all the way check that they are not too tight or too loose.
Now to add the eyes and nose to your face.

Flip the parts over.

To attach these pieces use permanent double sided tape.

Or, if you do not have double sided tape make a roll of single sided tape or use a small amount of glue.

Align the eye piece below the two slots for one of the brows.

Attach the other eye below the other brow.

Now to give your face a nose.

Use a piece of tape on the nose part.

And attach the nose above the center mouth slots.

You now have a completed face and it is time to give it emotions!

Pull down on the hoop and insert the emotion disk into the Emotigraph.

Insert the disk so that the center of the disk is on the center spar pieces.

Now try out your Emotigraph, pull down on a hoop to release the disk, rotate to the emotion you want to see to the front and release the hoop to display the emotion.
Here is what the emotions look like.
Suprised

Sad

Angry

Happy

And I hope you are happy with the Emotigraph you have made!
